Bolt Type: SAE Grade 5; Bolt Head Marking= 3 Radial Lines

Material: Medium carbon steel; quenched & tempered

   Nominal Size Range: 0.25" through 1.0":
      Proof Load (psi): 85,000;
      Min Yield Strength (psi):  92,000;
      Min Tensile Strength (psi):  105,000;
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bolt Type: SAE Grade 8; Bolt Head Marking= 6 Radial Lines

Material: Medium carbon alloy steel; quenched & tempered

   Nominal Size Range: 0.25" through 1.5":
      Proof Load (psi):  120,000
      Min. Yield Strength (psi):  130,000
      Min. tensile Strength (psi):  150,000
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bolt Type: 18-8 Stainless (the most common type)

Material: Steel alloy, 17-19% chromium, 8-13% nickel

   Nominal Size Range: 0.25" through 1.0":
      Proof Load (psi): None Does not meet SAE Specs
      Min Yield Strength (psi):  80,000-90,000
      Min tensile Strength (psi):  100,000-125,000

As a quick read of the numbers indicate, your average stainless steel bolt
has numbers more somewhere between an SAE Grade 3 and a Grade 5......NOT a
Grade 8!
