On the '65, there is a short from the stop light circuit to the ign.coil
circuit. The most likely place is in the rear harness connector at the
front of the engine compartment. The engine keeps running because the
stop light circuit does not go through the ign. switch, and a short will
feed the coil until the brakes are released, cutting power in that
circuit. Clean and inspect the connectors.

In the '63, as in all year Corvairs, the brake lights and the turn signal
light circuits meet at the turn signal switch. In early models, this is
mounted under the steering column. In late models, it is inside the
column. I would suspect that the switch is either slightly out of
adjustment, or has dirty contacts.
