i have 2 similiar engines , one does the long crank, the other hardly turns 
over even after setting for long periods of time..  smacks of the old quadrajet 
bowl drain syndrome. i tried looking at carb while pumping after setting, one 
does squirt better . so next step is to remove  carb top and look at fuel 
level after setting i guess.  trying to think if  there any bowl plugs that could 
develop a leak like the quads did(fix was a sponge and epoxy under the lead 
plugs that leaked) or just too low a float ajustment  (i really doubt it). i 
have a small fuel pressure gauge on a line that replaces the left fuel line for 
testing that shows me good pressure while running. so i did not check the 
pushrod length. maybe a valve in the fuel pump is leaking down , but where does 
the gas go from the bowl of the carb?
