Hey guys and gals,
Just a quick note to let y'all know I saw the Dr. today, and he said the rod
will be coming out of my leg sometime in February... as my luck will have it,
Cheryl has asked me to take her to the Valentine's banquet at Church on the
10th, and my birthday is near the end of the month, so somewhere along the way
my plans will be changed. The Dr mentioned the reason he's not waiting the
"full year" to remove it is he's seen a few of the larger "nails" (thats what he
refers to it as, since he hammered the SOB up into my leg I guess he's right,
after all, he IS the Dr) have fractured and tend to want to stay inside the
bone... his plan is to remove it through the bottom of my heel (it actually stops
at my heel bone and goes almost an inch from my knee cap, through the center
of the tibia), but if it breaks they will have to go in from the top and push
it out through the bottom... sounds like fun, huh?

Well, to make matters even better, the "other" rear wheel bearing in the 64
sedan is making a bunch of noise... right after I originally broke my leg in
March of 2004 I bought a replacement rear wheel bearing, and two of the guys
from the Derby City club came down and replaced it for me, after all, I was on
crutches and in a leg cast all the way up to my rear... well, the one we didn't
replace will need replacing, so I'll be making my order out soon for
another...

I DID manage to rebuild a spare carb for the 69 Monza, but I've not had the
time to put it on... maybe it will run a bit better than the one that keeps
going dry (my guess is the float valve sticking shut, but we shall see...)...

I'm not really looking forward to this surgery, and the Dr has told me the
recovery time will be somewhere in the 6-10 month time frame... my last surgery
was in April of last year, and it's taken me this long to get to the point now
that I can walk around with the use of a cane... and of course the leg brace
that looks like something Forrest Gump or Mad Max would wear. I know it needs
to be done, but it's the "down time" thats gonna suck out the tookus.

On a brighter note, I DO have my health... I talked to a fellow Central KY
club member just the other day, as I've been thinking of him quite a bit... he
found out around Christmas that he's got cancer, and the Doctors don't give him
much time. He's a good guy, and he seems to be preparing himself for the
worse, so it really puts my pathetic sorry a$$ in perspective. If any of you guys
out there are the prayin' type, and I KNOW some of you are, please say one for
Chuck Jelinek... he's a great guy... I know a lot of people who will agree
with me on that. I'm still hoping I'll be able to get out to his place in
Nicholasville sometime early spring, if I can get around then...

Anyway, I DID promise to keep you guys posted of whats going on. When the
surgery date is carved in stone I'll let you guys know.
Until then, I'll still be around.... thanks for being there for me guys... I
haven't forgotten.
Later,
Lonzo
