Heat head (350 or so is no problem) and cool stack (ice) twist out with pliers if it doesn't fall out. Replace removed stack with the new one out of the freezer. Tap into place; make sure the flat side is oriented towards the pushrod tube.

I have my replacement head at the local machine shop for inspection,
etc. The machinist is familiar with VWs and has done valve jobs on
several local Corvairs, but he has never replaced an exhaust stack.
What is the approved /accepted /preferred /best /easiest /suggested
method of doing this??

Thanks in advance
