<VV> Clutch Adjustment

Since I installed heavier carpet-type floor mats in the '65 Monza last fall, I've had a bit of a struggle with the clutch.  I can get it in gear and drive the car but I must make a conscious effort to push the clutch pedal all the way into the mat when shifting.

Before I put her on jack stands and attempt to adjust the clutch, could someone offer specific advice on what needs to to be done so that the clutch begins to engage further from the floor?  I assume that I'll need to move the adjustment nut on the clutch rod one way or the other?  Approximately how far?
