Trouble with the Wife's 99 Cavalier - darn thing dosen't have a
generator so I don't understand it.

Battery light came on today. Stays on. My very basic test was put the
trusty volt meter on the battery, got about 12.5 volts (she's been
running errands all day with the battery light on). Had her start it
while I watched the meter....I expected it to drop while cranking, then
rebound to a higher charging voltage after it started. Nope. Dropped
while cranking, then right back to about 12.5, which to me means the
alternator ain't making any juice. Quick test at the alternator (looks
like it's only got one wire..a red one...on it) from the wire and
ground gave me the same 12.5, looking like no charging is taking place.

Is this indication of a simple alternator replacement taking care of
the trouble? I'm assuming the regulator is built into the alternator on
this bugger.

You *can* repair a flip-flop with a capacitor!
