another thing that can cause intermittent slipping is bad seals on the pump 
servo  (the part you have to press apart)  because it needs to have good push 
to hold the clutch plates together,  or just a loose filter due to missing or 
bad oring in the filter where it goes into the valve body  (sucking air so not 
enough pressure can build up where needed).  i have taken more that one pg 
apart that did not have a seal or oring on the filter. if you really want to 
understand  a powerglide , get the book by bob balew   or the tape by the 
chesapeake club sold by clarks. that way you will be able to understand how they work. 
 i am no longer intimadated by a powerglide because of those 2 devices...
