As Chuck K. pointed out...his old 140 had 3.89's....= little pinging

Retarding the timing ONLY to use lower octane is the sign of an amateur!
gggggg

You lower the CR and add ADVANCE to the timing curve! You keep most, if not
all performance....and can LUG the engine much further than a
stocker...We're talking 36-40 deg. Total advance at 2500 rpms!

Since we now run at faster speeds on the I-ways....you add a BB [ ball
bearing] on top of the Power Valve [ if equipped] to slow down it's opening
characteristics..

Gearing? Better be traveling on level ground...or running 70
plus......with 3.08's My 66 vert has Ed Corsens 40 mpg winner powerpack in it......that's
what it takes!

You can run higher ratios and still get mileage...

In '99 my '66 had a 110 with 2 head gaskets......45 total advance......no
lower shrouds....3.89's! 3500 rpm at 70mph [ 26" tires], and gave 34
mpg..that's 430 miles on a Tank! coming back from Tahoe "down" 395 and I-15
