The June issue of Hemmings Classic Car mag has a nice 5-page story about Cal Clark and his operation in the mountains of the north. Worth a read.

On the last page of the book there's a column headlined Stupidology and written by one Jim Richardson. In it he chronicles some stupid auto tricks of the past, like turning off the ignition whilst descending a hill, only to turn it back on and blow the muffler off with the collected fuel in the exhaust system (been there, done that, liked the sound).

He recounts the activity he once saw at a Corvair show whereinthe wives served dinner from the tailgate of a Greenbrier while their menfolks took old vacuum cleaners, placed their hoses in a pan of gasoline, plugged them in and ran away.. Richardson admits, "seeing an old Electrolux explode was pretty entertaining. However please don't try this at home because such behavior is not only truly stupid, but very dangerous"

He's ovbously not a Corvair man, nor does he have a finely-developed sense of humor.
