How good is the ground?  Check and be sure that is not compromised.  It is a 
common problem in LMs, don't know if that happens so much on EMs.

Try working the dimmer on the light switch back and forth - full range - a 
couple dozen times, see if that helps.  You might even want to pull the knob 
and shaft out (use the hidden button to do so) and give a brief squirt of 
WD40 into the switch.

The dash bulbs have been replaced  on my '64 Vert but the dash is still dim.
