<VV> no low rpm throttle response

So there is no response to initially opening the throttle just on the left carb?

I've had a few non-Corvairs and one motorcycle run kind of like that when the points triggered ignition had excessive of clearance on the dist shaft.  The result is wildy variable valve timing.  For some reason at higher revs it smoothed out.  It was very visible with a timing light (dancing timing mark) but maybe not so obvious with a dwell meter, maybe because of greater tendency to average, since the dwell had to be all over too.
