All this talk about ign wiring should include the standard "look in the
book"! In this case it would be a wiring diagram.
The "running" power for the coil comes from the front of the car via a
black/pink wire (65) or a pink wire (66-69). It goes from the front of the
car to the BODY side of the engine compartment 12 pin connector. That
connector is near the bottom mount of the engine compartment prop.
This is where one would get 12 volts if they wanted it for their Pertronics
or to switch a relay for 12 volts to an HEI conversion.
On the ENGINE side of this connector a resistance wire (coated with a fabric
which is white with a red stripe and possibly a black stripe) which runs
from this large connector to the smaller 2 conductor connector for the
starter. At this connector it joins with the black with yellow stripe (65)
or yellow (66-69) wire that goes to the positive side (+) of the coil.

If one has a factory tach (Corsa) there is a brown wire on the negative side
of the coil which is for the tach.

On the starter connector the STARTER side has a black/yellow (65)or yellow
(66-69) wire going to the "R" stud on the starter. That yellow wire supplies
12 volts, to the coil, when the starter is engaged.
The thick purple wire comes from the front of the car and thru both the 12
pin and the 2 pin connector to the "S" terminal on the starter to turn the
solenoid on to engage the starter.

IMHO the coil should have CLOSE to 12 volts when the starter is engaged and
8 volts or so when running. The voltages are difficult to read because they
fluctuate with the opening and closing of the points. The "start voltage" is
usually lower than 12 volts due to the load of the starter. That is why GM
went to the trouble to add the "extra" yellow wire from the starter.
