Not commenting on street tires, but I ran BFG R-1s at the track until they stopped making them.  Then I had a set of Kuhmo autocross tires and I hated them. They weren't much grippier than street tires.  The next set were Yokahamas and they are much better, IMHO.  Similar in performance to the R-1s.
