I bought a tape of old car commercials on eBay a while back, and one showed
Dinah Shore introducing the 1953 Chevy, and she exclaims, "Have you ever
seen anything as beautiful as this ?"

The car looked like a tank compared to cars of today, but what made it
"beautiful" was probably that the rear "fenders" were a seamless part of the
body, which by those standards was probably very advanced.

However, the hood (front deck lid ?) still "bulged" between and higher than
the front fenders, which were somewhat "blended" but still obviously almost
separate from the body.

The tape also introduced the "car of Tomorrow," the 1958 Edsel, and
Tennessee Ernie Ford showing of the new 1957 Ford Skyliner "retractable"
hardtop, both of which carried the "blending" theme to the max, although
both still emphasized the front wheel well openings.
