Yep, comes out the back, mostly down.....  take out the defroster duct, (
it's pretty easy ) be a good time to give it a paint job, being scuffed from
years of peoples shoes.

And if possible, get a flexy-jointed youngster to reach up in there and get
those parts loose for you.  I did it about 20 years ago and couldnt walk for
a week.

I think I remember a metal strap you have to disconnect from the radio box.

FWIW, most of the radios I removed still worked ... but all the speakers
were eaten up by mice ... or crickets ....
