Interesting possibility.
IMO, it may have ended up called Corsa or Monza, but  probably not Corvair. 
Familiar, but sending the signal that it was not the same  as previous Corvairs 
(i.e. not rear engined).
 
Interesting note in reverse. My son owns a '94 Fxxd Probe GT. Nice  car, 
actually.  Ford was all set for it to be the next generation Mustang  until word 
got out while in development and the response was universally "A  FRONT DRIVE 
CAR THAT'S ESSENTIALLY A MAZDA AND YOU WANT TO CALL IT A MUSTANG? R  U NUTS!"
The same kind of need to make a clean break in naming a car when  there's so 
such an engineering difference from its predecessors may have  convinced GM to 
go the completely new name route with the Camaro anyway - even  if that were 
not their original thinking. 
Just conjecture on my part.
