Does everyone know why the engine should be at or near normal  temperature?
 
It's because cylinders more closely approch "true round" at operating  
temperature. Cold cylinders may be some what out-of-round, giving false  compression 
readings. Also remember that stock, and most aftermarket, pistons  are cam 
ground so that they properly fit the cylinders only at operating  temperature.
