Yes, it's a simple rheostat.....Use A Digital Volt meter $3.99 at Harbor
Freight and use the OHM's scale at 200
The 61-4 will work fine..
Read both ends of the winding [bar] to see if there's resistance.....then
read the connector to the frame of it as you move the arm thru it's travel...
0-45 ohms

Smitty Says: In theory Matt is correct but in practice it doesn't work out that way. If you read from the connector to the frame there in no telling what you will read if anything. Read between the connector and the float arm for a true test of the rehostat and the wiper contact. I suppose it is because of the constant rubbing of the arm shaft in the frame wheb the sender is in use that it reads OK in the car. When the sending unit is out of the car the fit is so sloppy and there is always a little corrosion present on the shaft so readings are real irregular (if at all).
