Not the Fastback and Squareback. They had Type 3 engines, which are  
basically Type 1 engines with a crank mounted cooling blower. 
The Wasserboxer isn't related. It's a totally different engine from the  Type 
4.

Vanagon  2.1 liter. After 83 the Vanagon had the "Water Boxer" version on the
