I learned from an older, wiser club member to put a screen across the air  
inlet vents. I used black nylon screen on both of my cars. A generous amount of  
your favorite adhesive, I used RTV, holds the screen in place on the back of 
the  vent panel. This is very easy and very effective in keeping the "crap" 
out of  the vents.
