<VV> Maximum compression ratio

So we're approaching the big day when we start putting the motor together for Doran's hotrod. After new seats, guides and valves, we have "polished" the combustion chambers and cc'd them. (Oh yes, the step has been milled) They work out to be 45cc's give or take a little). The cylinders are 0.060 over. I have done the compression ration calculation and with the 0.032 gasket and the pistons down 0.010 in the barrels, I get 10:1 (actually I think it was 9.98) so for a 140 motor running a mild cam (Otto 10)with a powerglide, can we run that on the street with 93 octane gas, or are we going to get constant pinging?

I have read in Bob's book about milling up to 0.070 off the top of about half the piston, directly opposite the valves, to reduce the compression ratio. Have folks done that, and is that something I should have done?

     Many thanks for your input.
