Ok, but I am not sure that completely answers my question, you mentioned SJ in your reply but what about SH? Wouldn't that be further back in history and more relevant to the issue? At what rating did the oils begin to not be suitable for flat tappets?

I have not found any oil at Walmart, AutoZone or Advanced that is appropriate for Corvair engines.NAPA might have a oil that would better meet your needs. Look for a off road racing or motor cycle oil. I am trying to set up an acct for an oil that would be good for non roller cams. If successfull I will make it available to Central Fl Corvairs.

Subject: More on oil and zinc

A question for the people with all the technical oil knowledge. I was looking at the selection at Wal-mart and found Pennzoil high mileage to be the only one on the shelf that says on the label "meets or exceeds requirements of SH and SJ" Would this still have the additives in it that makes it ok to use with flat bottom lifters or had the zinc, etc. already been removed for SH like they have been in today's SM?
