Actually, the keys clearly understood inertia pretty well.  They stayed 
put when the car moved.  Since there was nothing holding them up once 
the switch was no longer there, they fell to the floor.  With the car 
still moving, the keys stayed in that spot until they contacted the 
vertical support under the back seat.
