<VV> Aluminum Base - Removing anodizing?

As a kid I remember using Easy-off oven cleaner on the crank of my BMX bike
to remove the anodizing.

I didn't use gloves, so it also removed about 10 layers of skin as well....

Although I don't think it will protect as well as clear coat, I remember
seeing a piece on "Trucks" about Zoop Seal, it's supposed to protect
polished aluminum for a couple of years at a go.

Also, I'd be curious if the DIY anodizing kits can do a clear finish.

Regards,
Joel

I believe (not sure) the door sills were aluminum. Polished, then anodized.

To really brighten them up, you would have to remove the anodizing coating,
then polish them up - and keep on polishing them forever. Or clear coat
them.
- does anybody know the liquid to apply to remove the anodized coating? -
