Geez, I feel like Mighty Mouse sometimes... only I'm a lot bigger, and I
can't fly.
I had the pleasure of meeting some Ultravanners today, Mr & Mrs Clyde Standon
from Michigan. They were broken down in Cave City at a small campground,
about 42 miles from where I live. His Ultra wasn't getting any spark, and he has a
beautiful HEI set up with a Safeguard installed.... and a powder coated
shroud all around... MEGA-nice!
Anyway, once I found out all he needed was a coil, and some "regular" spark
plug wires, I pulled the parts off the 61 Greenbrier and headed his way... we
have a "dense fog advisory" this evening, and boy, was it THICK!
Once I pulled the HEI out I found the long bolts he'd put on the tensioner
was hitting the "regular" distributor, so we had to dig around and find one that
fit. The new distributor has a petronix in it, so that might help a little...
it's a spare he had with him, but no wires... I guess you can't carry
EVERYTHING in one of those!
I think we messed around with that thing for an hour or two, sat and talked
for maybe 20 minutes, and then the almost 2 hour drive back home, at times
going 30 MPH due to the fog (and this is on I-65 !!!)... did I mention it was
THICK!?!?
I got home about 40 minutes ago, and it's past my bed time... but just so you
know, if ANYONE is ever in my neck of the woods, don't hesitate to holler...
Jim Davis passed my number off to Clyde, and I was very happy to help him.
If anyone is going to be at that Ultravan Rally in Florida with him, please
take a look at what might be wrong with his HEI set up... he's got my used
parts of my 61 Greenbrier on there now, and I told Clyde there was no hurry, but I
*would* need them back, since that van *does* run and I don't have and other
spares handy... he and his wife are wonderful people, and if anyone else ever
gets the pleasure of crossing their path, you'll know what I mean. I know
they're heading down through Alabama, so keep an ear to the ground...
I GOTTA get some sleep... so I'll be talking to you guys later,
Lonzo
