<VV> oil leak

ok--prior owner installed bellhousing seal from diff side so that might have 
been reason for leak--new replacement seal he supplied from Clarks is of 
different construction--removed seal is all metal with inner ring of 
rubber---new seal has brown rubber coating on mounting surface and has 
ridges--is this correct and do I tap it in till it seats to inner 
bellhousing?
