Andy-
OBD II requires a reader as was stated. I have used AutoZone to scan the
codes for me. They do it for free. Their reader will display the codes along
with a small description of what they mean. The codes are supposed to be the
same for every car using OBD II but they do vary a little bit. If AutoZone
is not available in your area I would suggest calling other chain stores and
see if they offer the free service.
If you want a FULL description of what the codes mean you could consult the
books in the library. I have found the explainations in Chilton's Manuals to
be pretty good. Once you find what the codes mean you have to become a
detective to interpret what is actually wrong. Sometimes the code indicates
one part being bad while the code is actually caused by another.
If you have a multicoil ign system the miss may have been caused by a
failing coil which would eventually set a code for missfires on two cyl.
                        Ed
