Right, that's why the pilot bushing needs to be removed!!!

The tit on the torque converter needs to occupy the space taken up by 
the pilot bushing.

Hence why pilot bushing + torque converter wore the crankshaft thrust 
surface over a 1/4" in one direction!!!
