PNEUMATICS

Hmmm, how about adapting a vacuum operated clutch from a VW Beetle auto 
stick shift. Of course they also used a torque converter....

How about a Rambler E-Stick?

Or a 40's Packard automatic clutch?

Fluid Drive? No, Chrysler's fluid drive relied too heavily on the torque 
converter (OK, fluid coupling unit).
