Chris,
Sounds like good grounds for a lawsuit!! You can claim "mental anguish"
now that you realize what terrible danger you, as a dependent child, where
forced to endure!!
I'll bet that John Edwards would be glad to take your case.<GGGGG>

Seriously, your comments remind me that many years ago when son Jim was
only a few years old, I bought a harness from Sears (I think) and bolted it
to the firewall BEHIND the rear seat in the 65 Monza convertible. With the
harness on, he could lie down, sit up but couldn't move forward or to the side.
It seemed to work well until that scary day when he startled his poor
mother (who was driving) by "magically" appeared between the front seats with a
big grin on his face. With his early development of pre-engineering skills he
had figured out how to UNDO the harness buckles that held him safely in
position in the back seat. Another good idea gone wrong!<GGG>

If the seat doesn't need to be secure when an adult is in it why must it be

if there is a child in it. I rode in the back of a Vair while growing up.
A

this is not just a child restraint issue. Anyone in the rear seat is in
jeopardy really. My front seats fold forward too.

Food for thought
