Since no one responded yet to the Cruise control portion of your post, I will
say that I put a cruise control unit on my 1965 110 PG Sport Sedan back in
1992, that I obtained from JC Whitney. It is a Dana design that is made by
Rostra Precision Controls, Laurinburg, NC. They now have two differing designs:
the original system (which is a digitally controlled vacuum throttle pull
which I have), and a new design that utilizes electrical motor to pull on the
throttle.

The unit works well, and is easily adaptable to the Corvair, provided you can
still obtain the "Fiero extension cable" or are willing to make your own
extension cabling to reach from the front of the car to the rear (through the
tunnel). Either way, a "speed sensor kit" (Rostra part # 250-4165) is required
that consists of a couple of flat magnets that are strapped to one of your half
shaft axles, and a pickup coil that mounts to the suspension such that it
"tracks" the axle movement. The kits normally come with a "clamp on" GM style
switch mounting for your turn signal lever, but a lever with the switch built-in
is available from Rostra for around $25 (#250-3126 84-90 Chrome GM lever)

JC Whitney still shows a unit similar to mine from Rostra, but no longer
lists the Fiero kit or speed sensor, as modern cars have sensor outputs for speed
already built into the trannys. The contact phone number at Rostra for
questions is 800-782-3379

They do have website and the are other alternatives that folks have used.
Rostra manufactured the units for many vendors like Audiovox etc. I mounted a
small vacuum reservoir made for a small Chevy just to be sure that going up
long hills that I had plenty of throttle response. With the electrical unit,
that wouldn't be necessary.
