<VV> Speaking of trunk repaint

Refinishing the trunk is one of those "someday soon" jobs that I  just may 
actually do someday soon.
Enjoyed reading the thoughts here recently re; base paints/  rustproofing to 
use, but what are the opinions about need to strip the factory  finish first?
Mine is just about rust free except for a couple of previously  touched-up 
areas.
