Matt-
The brake light wiring goes thru the directional signal switch. It sounds
like the input to the directional switch from the brake light switch is not
going thru the directional switch to the brake lights. You probably have to
pull the steering wheel and check the contacts in the directional switch.
They can be bent (carefully!) to reestablish the correct contact. You can
put a meter on the white wire of the brake light switch to find which
contact that feeds in the directional switch. If the switch is in the off
position the white wire should connect to the green and yellow wires thru
the directional switch. You can check for continuity at the steering colunm
connector.

Reinstall the bulbs, and I'm BACK TO NO BRAKE LIGHTS (but turn signals that
use the same wire and same bulb element work fine.)
