There is a flat fan kit, produced many years ago - for racing use. It
involved a ducted shroud on top of the motor and a correctly pitched flat fan. The
one used was from a water cooled car - an Austin America. The fan was
pitched this way because of the transverse nature of the Austin. Anyway, several
people used it for an assist fan for road racing and autocross. Of course the
motors were cleaned up and tightly shrouded for this use. All in all it was
still marginal. If the cars were not going at a reasonable rate on course, they
would heat up. I believe there was a ram-air component to the overall
cooling. Nothing special, just the regular Corvair effect. Sitting still on grid,
not enough helping flow would cause heating up. - Seth Emerson
