that kit on small valve heads pulls like a mad elephant!  i did that  mod 
back when they came out on a 64 winter rat and was very surprised at how it  
pulled!
maybe i should do that to a powerglide engine....
 
the carbon problem may be more of a timing issue if it was not jetted way  
too rich..
