<VV> Deflashing Question

I'd like some opinions on the amount of deflashing required. All of my
engines have full shrouding, are fully sealed, tuned up and use premium (140 and
110 HP) or 89 octane (95HP). I keep the heads, oil cooler and tight
interference areas (between the end shrouds and cylinders) clear. I have deflashed areas
where the flow of air was blocked--especially around the valves. Unless
something broke I have never had an overheating problem even when the engines were
driven hard so I have never felt it necessary to cut out the mold casting
material that is perpendicular between the cylinder fins on top--I've always
thought of it as extra cooling area because it doesn't impede air flow and adds
surface area. Someone I know and respect (but who is newer to the Corvair
group) insists that this material should be removed as well.

Any comments (especially from those of you who compete with your cars)?
