agreed gas mileage considerations only work if you're considering a
   new
vehicle anyway...which is why I still gladly drive my 86 Chevy pickup
that gets pitiful gas mileage now (used to get 21mpg when new), but
   was
paid for about 18 years ago and for which insurance is dirt cheap. The
262Kmiles on the odometer is becoming a significant issue now
   though...
Thought I might hold out for the new GM 4.5 liter V8 diesel for 2009.
Will have to drive the Vair more in the meantime.

As you can see.... if fuel goes to $5 @ gal.......anf your Vair only
   gets 10 mpg around town....overall!!
   And you buy XXX for ?? $20g 30g 40 g and get 40 mpg....
And you drive 15,000 miles per year...
You are only saving $6,000.00....There's NO PAYBACK or savings!!!
   plain and simple
You'd have to drive 90,0000 miles to just break even on FUEL......
Now how about insurance costs? Maintenance... Licensing [ many

Looks like it may be a 3 speed car?? Black shifter with black ball?
Does not have a Spyder dash nor any exterior Spyder badging. Looks
like body was redone and ALL badging removed. Missing the hard to find
   chrome tire protector also.

This is a 1962 Monza Convert with turbo, and may be a Spyder ? (VIN
   would not
help here since Spyder was a "feature option" and not a separate model
   that
   year)
The car is listed for $1800 and is in McIntosh, Alabama :

Looks in good shape with little rust (but top mechanism has been
   removed for

I am getting ready to drain and fill my transimission and differential
before bolting the assembly back up to my engine. What types of gear
oil do you recommend and is there anything else I should know before I
   do this?
This is a performance build so I was thinking of using synthetic of
some type but haven't looked into it yet, what do you suggest? The
   tranny is a 66' 4 speed unit.
P.S.- thanks for all the replies on the windshield channel! I got tons
of good advice that I'll be sure to use. The channel is only rusted
through in one small area so it looks like it won't be a problem to
   fix.

I was the event master for the Corsa SC 2006 economy run... he won
   with 49.x
mpg. I filled that fume sniffing gas tank myself. One prior year he
   indeed
   broke 50mpg.
No kidding. But then he takes it pretty serious, too.
But I think he's misleading you about the smaller diameter tires,
   maybe on
the front? They're 16" rims all around and the rear end fills up that
   wheel
   well.

Smitty Says: Question # One. Why does Spike continue to stagger on,
running after the key is off? Alternator conversion and standard
ignition. It is not "engine run on" in the normal "poor fuel" fuel
sense. It dies as soon as the battery disconnect is pulled.
Question # Two. It has been recommended to use a solenoid controlled
by a switch on the throttle linkage when using a Vac Adv/ Press Retard
unit with a turbo. What are we trying to accomplish ?
