Eric,

We actually have a factory GM corvair engine jack that we borrow from one of
our members. It's actually a Walker Transmission jack with a custom plate
designed to hold the 'vair drivetrain. We've managed to find one of the
Walker jacks for ourselves, and we're in the process of having the cradle
made up. Once we get the original cradle back I can probably supply you
with a pic at minimum, and possibly the dimensions if needed.

Without pics I can tell you it's flat bar with the narrow edge shaped to
follow the edge of the oil pan inside the lip and outside the bolts. It has
tabs at the front the are used as stops on the front of the block on either
side of the short rectangular extension at the front of the oil pan. At the
rear there are triangular tabs that fit up between the skid plate and the
damper door assemblies. There is a front to back bar (flat) that is in the
middle under the skid plate. It has a slot in it so that you can remove the
bolt from the bottom of the skid plate and replace it with a longer bolt
into the hole. With this bolt in place the jack will support and entire
'vair drivetrain.

Using this set up I have been able to line up an engine (for a LM with the
transaxle still in the car) with the imput shaft sticking out and slide the
engine in on the first push. The Walker jack has up and down, as well as
tilt front to back and even the ability to move the engine side to side on
an arc to get things lined up just right. It works slicker'n hot snot.

Regards,
Joel

Subject: <VV> Corvair Engine Cradle Plans

Does anyone out there have the plans for a Corvair Engine Cradle (for engine
removal)? There are plans in the March '74 issue of the newsletter, but I
dont have that one in my collection.

My youngest brother would like to make one as a welding project for his High
School Welding class.

Thanks in advance...
