<VV> The YH Fuel Problem...solved?

I have been trying diligently over the years to solve the problem that many
YH owners have with their carburetor leaking fuel out the throat at idle or
after shutoff. The favorite solution has been to install a fuel pressure
regulator (or a return line, or both, in earlier cars) and hope for the best. I have
tried just about everything including inlet ball valves, float levels, venting
the top back externally to the bowl, enlarging vents, etc., etc. Some things
worked some of the times. But, while toying with a shaft sealing system similar
to what many owners use on the Rochester carbs, I think I might have found
the cause of the fuel problem, and think it is simply excess air. While, I'm not
sure why yet, every carb (so far) that got the seal kit was "fixed."
Additionally, and strangely, none of the shaft to throttlebody bore clearances were
what I would call "excessive" and were in the .002"-.003" total runout range. (I
tried new shafts without success). I did find, however, what I consider
excessive air leakage in the area of the choke housing and cover. While some air
gets through that area by design, I found leakage around the plastic covers,
mainly due to rough castings and the poor clamping design. Cleaning up of the
area where the metal shield fits and using larger clamps virtually eliminated
unplanned leaks. While I'm not sure if sealing just one or both of the suspect
areas did it, those of you with the puking fuel problem might want to try it.
Feel free to drop me a line for more details and how to test your carb.
