i put several power antennas on earlys.  to do the neatest job use an  
aftermarket unit that has the shorter throw. no butcher work involved at all .i  
used one from the napa balkamp catalog. 
 on my own car (64 spyder convert , and the lakewood), i used a delco  
factory cb combo unit to get cb/10 meter ham  on the same unit when  caravanning.  
it worked well , but i had to murder the vent assembly on  that side to get the 
room for that bulky motor unit.  there are some remote  motor units that 
should work well , but i have not tried them (such as jaguar  etc) . 
lots of room on fc's though....
