Mobil took Castrol to court for misrepresenting their oil as a synth. However
the court decided in Castrol's favor stating that......SYNTH OIL WAS NOT
DEFINED BY HOW IT WAS MADE OR FROM WHAT IT WAS MADE, BUT BY ITS PROPERTIES.  It
turned out that  Castrol Syntec had many of the same properties that real synth
had.
So now, since synth made from crude is cheaper than synth made like Mobil
did,
Almost everybody is making "synth" like Castrol did...from crude.
