Depends on the coating -- there are some ceramic coatings (sort of like 
powder coating) that can either insulate or promote heat transfer to 
other mediums, including air.

There is a lot more science than snake oil to coating technology.  The 
question *might* be what are you doing with the heat from the exhaust 
manifold castings  and whether you are running with or without lower 
shrouds.
