I think the fan needs to be coated with something. Remember that the  
Magnesium material is sourced  from Seawater - and would much rather  be back there. 
It corrodes easily - as evidenced by the white spots on most  fans. Once you 
have it clean, a light coating of paint - Black is good - should  really be 
applied! - Seth
