<VV> metal vs. plastic fan

It makes no sense that a lighter plastic fan puts less load on the motor. 
How?  The only difference would be bearing friction and that should be nil. 
The only significant load on the motor is from the work done in blowing the 
air and that will be the same, metal or plastic.
