OK,
Here it is..... As you all know, I had pinging problems. I took off the
shrouds and set timing to 6 at idle. At first I thought this was ok. It
isn't. I always learn the hard way. The result of this turned out to be my
hesitation problem. I reset timing to 16 at idle and now I am back to occasional
pinging. I have been experimenting (when time permits) with this setting. I
am now at 14 and without a vacuum advance connected. This seems pretty
good. I plan to clean the engine out next. I think that with new springs in the
distributor and a calibrated vacuum advance, we should be golden. I am
seeing 300 degree cylinder head temps. As for the standard Corsa Stink. It came
back with the higher timing numbers. Severely retarding must cause less
unburned fuel to steam out of the carbs after shut down. I basically drive too
fast on curvy back roads and about 75 on the highway. Does anyone have temps
far different than 300 under the same conditions? Thanks.
