Smitty Says:    Lonny it seems that your float valve was working right at first anyway.  If there is any doubt that it is opening now you can check it this way.  Get a small square ended wire.  (That is, flat on the end like a drift punch).  remove the 3/4" plug from the top of the carb cover.  Push the wire straight down in to the hole inside.  This will dislodge the float valve if it is stuck.
   I had a similar experience some time back from old gas.  It had something sticky in it which kept sticking the valve closed.  In any event, do the spark check and make sure spark is there for the plugs.
