the only thing i have had luck with is pb blaster.  even then plan on  a 
rebuild. of course turning engines are easier to get apart  anyhow.. the internals 
are definitely damaged to some extent if it is  setup.  never took one apart 
that was not hurt in some way. yes some would  run a while , but they would/ 
could  not be dependable. piston rings get  setup in the grooves , rust grains 
get pumped thru bearings , wrist pins set up  in pistons then bend rods , all 
sorts of neat stuff shows up if you take an  engine apart that set too long. 
just too many possibilities of problems.
i get some of my best hard luck trophy parts from them...
