In addition to the other good advice you've received, IF you believe it 
entered the carbs...

after replacing the oil,
but before you bother cleaning the engine (cause this will make a mess)
and while the carbs are off
and while the distributor is still in
pull the plugs
Plug the spark plug holes in the shroud with rags  (stuff tightly)
and turn the engine over a few times to pump any water out of the cylinders.
spray some MMO or a few squirts of oil in the cylinders
turn it over a few more times.

If it was that flooded, pull the shroud and wash the heads clean.

Sounds like MY kind of bad luck.  Here's wishing you better luck from now 
on.
