This year the Vanderbilt Race Celebration, is set for Sunday September 16, 2007. Our fourth annual celebration of the Vanderbilt Races to be held from 10:00AM to 3:30PM on Long Island’s fabled North Shore. Only 25 miles from Times Square and half a mile from the historic waterfront village of Roslyn, this is also a unique opportunity to enjoy both Timed Demonstration Runs & a Concours d’Elegance.

For those of you that know Terry Stafford and his very quick Corvair, Terry has been a regular participant for the last few years and says this is one of the most enjoyable events he has ever attended.

Show your car in the Concours, run your car in the Timed Demonstration Runs, or just show up and enjoy being part of a beautiful historic event.

I have included of the the web sites text below to give you the flavor of the event. Click on the event form link below to learn more or go straight to the web site. http://www.vanderbiltracecelebrations.com/index.html

This year’s action will again take place on the vast grounds of Childs Frick’s 19th Century estate in Roslyn Harbor, home to the Nassau County Museum of Art. The Museum will host Timed Demonstration Runs for cars with a racing heritage and a Concours d’Elegance spanning more than 100 years.
The Demonstration Runs and Concours d’Elegance
The Demonstration Run course is 6/10 mile long, starting with a flat straightaway to redline in 2nd gear, then heavy braking for a blind 90 degree turn, then a long run with an easy upgrade in a gentle S-curve with hay bale slaloms designed to keep you in 2nd gear at the checkered flag. The Concours will be a congenial and elegant appreciation of automotive design in the manner of Villa d’Este at Lake Como, judged solely on appearance, originality and historical significance. In the museum spirit, entrants in both the Demonstration Runs and the Concours are encouraged to wear period costumes and Demonstration Runs require safety equipment also, appropriate to the age of the vehicle.
